According to a report released by Vocativ, the United States Government spent roughly $851.03 per minute of the U.S. taxpayers dollars to train 60 “moderate” rebels to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS):

The Obama administration’s troubled program to train Syrian rebels against the Islamic State was dealt another blow Wednesday when a report surfaced showing that the U.S. burned through about $250 million preparing a mere 60 soldiers for battle. That’s a burn rate of more than $850 a minute since the funds for the initiative were approved, Vocativ has found.

The article further claimed the source of these numbers were given by a congressional aide that was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter:

A congressional aide, who was not authorized to speak publicly, told Politico that military personnel had already spent roughly half of the $500 million committed to the program, which aims to train thousands of Syrian fighters to take on ISIS. Earlier this week, Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter stunned lawmakers when he admitted that the program, thus far, had only vetted 60 candidates.

So far, Barack Obama’s contingency to defeat the terrorist group in Syria and Iraq has failed. Not only has ISIS grown exponentially, but the amount of territory the terrorist group controls has grown since the creation of the “Anti-ISIS-Coalition.”

The revelation comes as the White House continues to draw criticism from its strategy to defeat ISIS. Using Carter’s and Politico’s figures, the U.S. spent $851.03 per minute (or $14.18 every second) on its Syrian training initiative between the time President Obama authorized the expenditure on December 16, 2014 and when Politico published its report.
